Excited to announce a new project, COMBSY. Featuring my original compositions and a revolving cast of musicians from Tulsa and New Orleans. This will be my debut “solo” record and will be available Fall 2017 on Horton Records.

The album was recorded to 2in tape at Fellowship Hall Sound in Little Rock, AR back in October of 2016 with Andrew Bones (drums, vibes) and Aaron Boehler (bass). Then I took those sessions down to New Orleans and tracked horns at Marigny Studios with Brad Walker (Sturgill Simpson, tenor sax), Dan Oestreicher (Trombone Shorty, bass/bari sax), and Carly Meyers (Roar, trombone)

More info soon…

SXSW, Album Release(s), Party time

sxsw tulsa

Lots of things reaching the finish line.  Mike Dee & Stone Trio just got masters back on our first EP that will be out later this month on Horton Records.  Killer sounds…more info on release soon.  We are also excited to be playing SXSW this year.  We’ll be joining the amazing Okie talent at the Tulsa Boom Factory showcase on 3/16.

I’ve been mixing my album with Michael Trepangier at Cardinal Sound in OKC.  Really loving how it has turned out and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.  Almost finished…looking towards an early summer 2017 release.  It has been a fun journey making this record.  We started back in October 2016 at Fellowship Hall in Little Rock, AR.  Andrew Bones, Aaron Boehler, and I tracked the live (heart of the album) band takes to 2″ tape.  Then I took those recordings and went down to New Orleans where we tracked horns with Brad Walker (sax, Sturgill Simpson), Dan Oestreicher (sax, Trombone Shorty), and Carly Meyers (trombone, Roar) at Marigny Studios.  After that, a few months of guitar, steel, and synth overdubs and lots of chopping and editing…and I think I have something unique and something I am proud of.  Its a good feeling.  More info on release, label, etc soon

One more project rolling towards release this summer is the debut album, “Better Than Alone” from up and coming singer-songwriter Chris Blevins which I’ve had the pleasure of playing on and producing.  He is running a Kickstarter right now.  Click Here to preorder the album or book a live show with Blevins.

2017 – New Album(s) – Update

nola hiho

2017 has been wild so far.  I spent the first week of the year doing a run of shows in New Orleans with Brian Haas, Helen Gillet, Annie Ellicott, Mark Southerland, and many other brilliant improvisers…6 shows of free, improv madness.  So much fun.

I’m back in Tulsa now editing final overdubs on my first solo album this week.  Super, super stoked on how it has turned out!  Look for a release in early summer.  Also excited to be wrapping up an album I’m producing and playing on from singer-songwriter Chris Blevins.  This will be his debut full length LP and we’ve been working on it together since December…look for a spring 2017 release.

Earlier this week Mike Dee & Stone Trio just broke ground on our first EP.  Mike is truly one of my favorite MCs anywhere and its an honor to back him up.  Hoping to have that EP ready for release by late Spring.  There are a few other special projects in the works as well…more info soon.

New solo album in the works!

Im excited to announce I’ve started working on a new studio album of my original material. I’ve been accumulating material and working towards this for the last few years and it has been a blast seeing it all come together.

Tracking began a few weeks ago at Fellowship Hall in Little Rock, AR in trio form with Andrew Bones (drums) and Aaron Boehler (bass) joining me to track live to 2in tape with engineer Jason Weinheimer.  Next, I’m heading to Marigny Studios in New Orleans to track horn overdubs with an amazing section that includes Brad Walker (Sturgill Simpson), Dan Oestrecher (Trombone Shorty) and Carly Meyers (Roar).

So pumped for yall to hear this music…its coming together in a beautiful way.

More info soon!!

Clip From Swiss Festival

Below a link to a clip from a collaborative set Booomclap did with Swiss band Le Rex at the Jazzwerkstatt Bern festival.  Jazzwerkstatt is a unique festival based in Bern, Switzerland that brings in artists from all over the world to work together on one-off sets of music in a “workshop” style environment.  The musicians are brilliantly talented and I feel blessed to be included.
